The great majority of people will do whatever it takes to avoid an actual physical confrontation. Starting at a young age we are often faced with bullies and aggressors who either wish to hurt or take something they want away from us. Sometimes, however, no matter how much you want to avoid a fight there is just no way around it. You may be given two choices, find a way to stop an assailant, or allow them to hurt you. Clearly, the best alternative is to do whatever you can to get away safely.
What Is Pepper Spray? Pepper spray is a chemical compound that is made with extremely hot peppers and is also known as Oleoresin Capsicum. It is basically the extract from hot peppers that are part of the nightshade family mixed with a resin that can be shot out of a small canister. Each canister of defense spray is given a Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) rating, which indicates how hot the product is. To find out how powerful a particular spray is, check out the SHU rating. What Can It Do? Just one blast of pepper spray is enough to temporarily incapacitate most any aggressor. A stinging hot flood of pepper will invade the eyes, mouth and nose, making it hard to see, move and even breathe. It has a strong impact on normal respiratory functions, and will basically put a grown man down for up to 20 minutes. None of the adverse conditions created by pepper spray last on a long term basis, so it is a safe and non lethal form of self defense. Spraying an assailant will give you the opportunity you need to get away. It should only be used against someone who is threatening you or the people you are with. Never spray it on anyone you've don't intend to harm. Picture the hottest pepper you've ever eaten, or any time you may have accidentally ended up with a bit of pepper in your eye. These may be memorable moments that hurt to even think about. Being hit with pepper spray is infinitely more painful. Another Benefit One great thing about carrying pepper spray is that it can be used from a distance. Most canisters are effective from several feet away. This means you can protect yourself from a point that is far enough away from your attacker that they will not be able to strike back at you. It is one of the most effective long distance personal defense weapons you can carry. The next time you are in a situation where you may be attacked by a criminal, we hope you have a canister of pepper spray with you. Just displaying the can is usually enough to cause a predator to back off and leave you alone. Stay out of physical confrontations where you can get hurt and the situation can escalate quickly - stop an assailant immediately with a quick blast of pepper spray. |
