Well if you haven’t noticed its mid winter. The days are getting longer and the cold snap we get every year is here. This is usually the time when we start thinking about traveling some place warm and tropical where we can have Margaritas or Mai Tai’s brought to us while we lounge on the beach and pay respect to the most missed aspect of our lives… The Sun.
And if the little devil in your conscious comes out you may even get a casual smile on your face when you think about all your co-workers at home toughing out winter as you order your second round. If you are planning on traveling this winter we have compiled a few tips for making your trip safer and less stressful. Face it with the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) in full swing now and telling us what we cannot carry onboard an aircraft with us a little planning will go a long way. If you are like me there is nothing that gets to me more than airport security. Especially when you have “those people” that just seem to wait until they get to the screener to get their stuff together and hold up the line for the rest of us. Although, this section is a little bit off my subject I want to cover it briefly because a little preparation will go a long way in reducing your stress when traveling and keep you from being distracted. So here are some tips from the TSA www.tsa.gov Air travelers may now carry liquids, gels and aerosols in their carry-on bag when going through security checkpoints. With certain exceptions for prescription and over-the-counter medicines, baby formula and breast milk, and other essential liquids, gels, and aerosols, the following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols you want to carry through a security checkpoint. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers.Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening.X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items. Also, take an extra Ziploc bag put your keys, cell phone, pda, cash, coins and other things in it before you get to screening. That way you will not be fumbling with them when you get to the screener. Keep your Passport/ID with you at all times. If you are traveling outside of the United States by AIR be aware that beginning January 23rd, 2007 you WILL be required to have a passport to re-enter the United States. This includes, Mexico, Canada, The Caribbean, Bermuda and South America. However, this does not include U.S territories. Also, if you do travel outside of the United States register with the U.S.Embassy of the country you are visiting. |
