Personal alarms that have pull cords I really like because there is usually a clip attached to the other end of the cord. This allows you to attaché the alarm to your purse or other bag and clip the cord to your person. This way if a would be thief attempts to run off with your belongings they will be attracting a lot of attention to their whereabouts with an alarm going off. Personal alarms will cost from $10.00 to $25.00 and you can find many different kinds online or you can find a local store but you may need to do a little searching.
Screecher alarms are alarms that produce an ear piercing horn type sound by releasing compressed air over a reed that vibrates at high frequency. They are very compact and very loud. You can pick one up for about $20.00 to $30.00. They are about the size of a can of pepper spray. So all of these products we have just talked about are for use when you are out and about. What about when you are in your hotel room. Well there is a couple of solutions for you as well. 2 in 1 combination alarms are units that double as a personal body alarm and an entrance alarm. You simply hang this unit on the inside of the door of your hotel room, turn the unit on and if anybody attempts to even touch the door handle an alarm will sound. They give of a 80db siren when activated by removing a pin or when used as an entrance alarm. There is a downside to this product, as they will not work on a metal door. They are affordable at about $30.00. Another item for hotel room safety is a doorstop alarm. These alarms look like the old wood wedge your teacher most likely used to hold open the classroom door but with an added advantage. While the basic design, principle and use is the same these alarms have a contact plate that activates an alarm if someone tries to open the door & wedge the door so it cannot be pushed opened. Some of these alarms also have a motion sensor that will sound even if someone tries to move the alarm from its position by sliding a stick under the door in an attempt to move the unit out of the way. This type of alarm is affordable with prices starting at about $25.00. A little prevention can definitely go a long way towards your travel safety. Take a little time and determine your needs. Then you can determine which products or combination of products will work best for you. Thank you and remember to be and stay safe. |
